I absolutely love pinterest! There are tons of great ideas for everything and anything you could imagine!!! Loads of inspiration! It got me thinking are we too hard on ourselves and set our limits too high?? I have three daughters and with my first I wanted to have the perfect birthday parties with the perfect theme and perfect decorations and perfect food and the same with my second daughter. Now with my third I’ve found that I’ve been there done that I’m tired, so tired 🙂
Do our kids really care if they have the perfect . . . . everything?? In my case, not really. This past year I did a really toned down party for my 5 year old. She invited 2 friends to a movie and then back to our house for every kids favorite, pizza, cake and ice cream!! I thought about buying a perfectly decorated cake for $35 but then decided to make my own instead. I even decorated it myself, yes I decorated it not my daughter 🙂 I made a basic rectangle cake and flipped it out onto a cookie sheet then decorated with colorful icing. I bought the Beauty and the Beast figurines from Amazon and my daughter loves that she gets to keep them to play with. I remember growing up I usually had a homemade cake in the metal or glass pan, iced with chocolate or vanilla icing (maybe even sprinkles!!) and candles. That was it! It didn’t even have my name or happy birthday written on it!! (Okay so maybe I’m showing my age just a little bit, oops)
The point is she had a great time! It didn’t matter that I spent $15 instead of $35 on a cake or that I didn’t have perfectly labeled party food. She was with her friends and had fun!! If you are someone that enjoys going all out with pinterest ideas, go for it! But if you’re tired and want to get back to the basics that’s okay too, it’s not a pinterest fail.
