Last week I completed my first ever 3 day cleanse! I’m so glad I stopped putting it off and just did it. Honestly, since having my third daughter 5 years ago I have never gotten back to where I wanted to be health wise. Daily I was consuming caffeinated coffee (with flavored creamers of course!), pop, sweet tea, chips, snacks and I loved my sweet baked goods. The sugar cravings could not be tamed! After the holidays I figured would be the perfect time to start. My goals during this cleanse were to stop the sugar cravings, cleanse my system of toxins and reboot my metabolism.
The Bikini Body Detox by Danette May is the cleanse system that I used. Last year I came across her Facebook page and I really enjoyed reading her posts and watching her videos. She shares workout tips and healthy recipes using natural “real food”. She is really upbeat and motivating and I liked her approach to healthy clean eating.
During the 3 day cleanse, along with drinking up to 64 ounces of water a day, I had several types of smoothies, an apple cider vinegar detox drink, green tea and on the second and third day a quinoa and kale dish. My first thought before starting was “Of course I’ll loose weight I’m starving myself!”. Well, I certainly didn’t “starve” myself. The smoothies and quinoa were filling and I didn’t feel hungry. These non-inflammatory foods work to nourish, heal and cleanse your body while also detoxifying your liver. It’s not just the type of foods but the combination of the foods together that makes the difference.
The first day was a little rough. I think I might have gone through a little bit of a junk food withdraw :). Although, by that evening I definitely felt better. Overall after I had completed the 3 days I felt really really good. The sugar cravings were gone, actually all the junk food cravings were gone! I also wasn’t my usual sluggish self, I had more energy and felt refreshed and revived.
The 5 Things I Learned
- Green tea is a great alternative to caffeinated coffee.
- Eliminating sugar has helped my mood and energy levels.
- Avocados are delicious in smoothies! They aren’t just for guacamole 🙂
- I can resist the urge for those late night snacks and sweets.
- The need to drink more water! I definetly was not drinking enough before the cleanse.
At the end of the 3 days I lost 6 pounds and I’ve been able to maintain the loss. I’m continuing to eat healthier and cleaner. I’ve cut out the junk food and sugar drinks completely. I am so glad that I decided to do this cleanse. It has helped me tremendously with my food cravings and now I am on my way to a healthier self!
